Test & Tag Compliance Guide

In Australia, any electrical equipment with a plug used in the workplace must be regularly tested and tagged to meet safety standards and legal obligations under AS/NZS 3760.

The required frequency of testing depends on both the type of equipment and the environment it’s used in. For example, tools on construction sites need testing every 3 months, while office computers may only need testing every 5 years.

Below is a handy guide to help you understand what needs testing—and how often.

Construction, Mining & Demolition

Drills, grinders, extension leads, RCDs, portable tools

Every 3 months

Factories, Workshops, and Manufacturing

Air compressors, welders, forklifts, power tools

Every 6 months

Office Equipment (non-hostile environment)

Computers, printers, photocopiers, monitors, chargers

Every 5 years

Kitchen & Appliance Use (low-risk areas)

Microwaves, kettles, toasters, fridges

Every 12 months

Service & Office Environments

Vacuum cleaners, fans, phone chargers, AV gear

Every 12 months

Portable RCDs (Residual Current Devices)

Safety switches used on-site

Every 3–6 months
(depending on environment)

3 Phase Equipment

Industrial machinery, large appliances

Every 6 or 12 months
(depending on environment)

Hostile Environments

Any equipment exposed to dust, moisture, heat, or mechanical damage

Every 6 months
(or more frequently if needed)

Every day in Australia, 72 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer; a reminder of how important awareness and early detection truly are.

At Suncoast Test & Tag, we’re proud to support this cause, donating a percentage from every job to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA).

It’s more than a donation; it’s about starting conversations, encouraging regular checks, and looking after the men we care about.

If you’d like to help make a difference, you can donate directly to PCFA below.

Together, we can change lives.
